María Ester Bórquez, of Chile studied French-Spanish Translation at the University of Concepción. She was part of the folkloric ballet "ESTUDIANTINA" currently "Folkloric Ballet of the University of Concepción" dedicated to the folk dances of Chile and Latin America. She danced in the “Grupo Folclórico MAUCÓ” (2006-2014) from the city of Concón, Valparaíso region; a dance and music group that in 2002 was considered a Cultural Ambassador of the Region. Together with MAUCÓ, she made several tours within Chile, Argentina and Peru and she participated in the “8vo. International Lake Festival ”in Küçükçekmece, Turkey, organized by CIOFF (International Council of Organizations for Folklore Festivals and Folk Art) in 2013.
In 2014, she participated in the First International Dance Festival of Concón and for several consecutive years, they performed at the “Festival del Huaso de Olmué”, one of the most representative and important festivals in Chile. On a trip to Canada in 2018, she was invited to participate in a folkloric event in Winnipeg, where she presented representative pieces of Chilean culture. In 2019, she was invited to participate as Dance Director of a new folk group, “Cullpohué”, dedicated to Chilean and Latin American folklore. She is currently the Artistic Director of the recently created “CULLPOHUÉ Folkloric and Cultural Foundation”. María Ester, in addition to her years of experience in folk dance, received a Certificate for the course "Folklore as Artistic Discipline" from the Folklore Academy of the University of Chile and recently obtained a Diploma in Stage Production from the Escuela del Ballet Folklórico de México by Amalia Hernández. |
